So what will this weekend’s second annual Music Tastes Good sound like? If it were food, it’d be jambalaya. If it were fabric, it’d be a weave of seemingly mismatched colors that, from a distance, turn out to be beautiful. In short, it’s all over the map, reflecting the eclectic vision of its founder, the late Josh Fischel, and his partner in musical capers, talent buyer Jon Halperin.

By extension, it reflects its hometown, Long Beach, the second largest city in Los Angeles County.

So Buzz Bands LA went with the flow in compiling our 25-song A Taste of Music Tastes Good playlist. There are old songs by artists with newer albums (Built to Spill, Sleater-Kinney, Ride); songs from the “album shows” two artists at MTG are giving (Los Lobos and Of Montreal); strong stuff from artists on the undercard (Minihorse, Y La Bamba, Jay Som); plenty of local flavor (Joyce Manor, Dengue Fever); and some obvious choices (Ween, Digable Plants, Alvvays).

We start with Ride because of our strong relationship with the album “Going Blank Again,” 25 years young this year. Have fun.
