Small Forward

L.A. quartet Small Forward combines the talents of Michael Stevenson, Rounak Maiti, Campbell Scott and Nick Waldram, having gotten their start in 2014 when Stevenson and Maiti met in college. After an EP and a home-recorded full-length, “The Moon You Stand On,” released a year ago, the quartet embarked on writing “Affections,” a new EP that will be out via Forged Artifacts on Oct. 27. Their music is wistful, almost fragile psychedelic folk, like the Shins in a snowglobe, and the new EP’s lead track, “The Reservoir” unfurls slowly, gently whiffling as if carried by the “winds … running down the reservoir.” Fans of painterly, down-tempo indie-rock will like this as a soundtrack to their reverie.
