The video for Doe Paoro‘s ethereal pop track “Second Door” depicts the Tibetan concept of “Bardo,” a state of existence after death and before one’s next birth, when consciousness is not connected with a physical body but experiences various phenomena, including transcendental insight and karmically created hallucinations (determined by how nice or naughty you’ve been). The idea of this liminal existence and the “celestial character” of Paoro’s voice guided Eduardo Meza’s direction for the animated video. He says, “I suppose not having a storyboard was the most genuine way of submitting myself to the same process of uncertainty and adventure of the main character itself, and let the track dictate the movements, actions and transformations that happen throughout. I think the best decision was to not give a clear resolution to the ending, as they say, things never die, they only change form.”

Paoro wrote “Second Door” during a transitional period in her life, so the theme made perfect sense. She says,” I had the feeling that part of my life as I knew it was ending and I was waiting/hoping/praying that I would be granted a new beginning.” She teamed up with Jimmy Hogarth (Amy Winehouse, James Blunt) to produce the single, and Brian Eno-collaborator Leo Abrahams contributed guitar and ambient sounds. A new album will arrive in 2018.
