Ears Wide Open: The Rigs

The Rigs

Pop/rock duo the Rigs last month released their debut album “World on Fire,” an eight-track canvas of broad-brush emotions and paint-gun bombast. The fast-moving conflagration is the work of songwriters TJ Stafford (who fronted the long-running bar band Uncle Daddy and in April released a solo full-length) and Caitlin Parrott, each of whom has enjoyed success getting songs placed in television shows. Everything about “World on Fire,” which was produced by Michael “Smidi” Smith (Gorgio Moroder, Ke$ha, Mozella, Tyrone Wells), screams “Notice us! Notice us,!” until the smoke lifts for the album closer, “When We Were Young.” It’s a tender track with warm, choral vocals and soulful wails, impressing with its glow, not a wall of flames.
