One wouldn’t think it was a chilly night (for L.A.) if they were inside the packed Hi Hat on Friday night. The large crowd warmed the small space, and gave big cheers to Surfer Blood as they took the stage on the second night of their West Coast tour. The indie/surf-rock quartet performed songs spanning all their albums, including some from their 2017 release “Snowdonia.” A few songs into the show, John Paul Pitts took off his guitar and introduced the next song, “Take It Easy,” which he explained was written when he was 15 (and originally appeared on the band’s 2010 debut “Astro Coast”). Mic in hand, he jumped down off the stage and sang the majority of the song amongst the crowd. At one point Pitts climbed under the Hi Hat’s small stage, continuing to sing the song. Near the end of the set, members of the L.A. band Winter came on stage to dance along. Winter had supported Surfer Blood on tour during parts of 2017.

Terry Malts, who opened the show, are supporting Surfer Blood on all dates of their current West Coast tour.
