“Teeth and claws out” declares the announcement of the single from precocious power-poppers Kitten, surfacing with new music for the first time since the 2016 EP “Heaven of Somewhere in Between.” Indeed, “I Did It!” is nothing if not frisky, with piercing synths and caffeinated vocals giving it exuberance right down to the exclamation point. In spirit and breathlessness, we are reminded of the mid-’90s Britpop outfit Sleeper, in particular the album “The It Girl.”

The single, is the first from the band’s forthcoming sophomore album, comes after a period 23-year-old singer-songwriter Chloe Chaidez — who’s closing in on a decade as Kitten — and gang spent substantial time on the other coast, writing, touring, recording and, for the first time, self-producing. “‘I Did It!’ was one of the first songs I wrote with the band after returning to New York,” Chaidez says. “The core of the music came in a fit of inspiration, and the words just flowed out of me. The song is both regretful and empowering. It’s about the kind of mistake that ends up showing you the way forward. I’ve made a lot of those. I’m sure there will be more.”
