The Caracals are a new Orange County outfit piloted by Johnny Cisneros with one foot in the garage and the other in the surf. Citing the gritty, melodic sounds of artists such as the Last Shadow Puppets and the Black Keys, Cisneros and friends (two of whom play in Hanni El Khatib’s band) last month unveiled the nimble rocker “In the Dark,” the first single from an EP the band plans to release this summer. Faintly retro but not aping the past, “In the Dark” is a promising start. More please.
