Canadian indie-rockers Tokyo Police Club have played coy with fans eager for a follow-up to their 2014 album “Forcefield” and the two EPs they released in 2016. Recent developments point to some sort of announcement being imminent. First, there’s the new single “New Blues,” released in April, which, pound for pound, outstrips anything on the two-part EPs, “Melon Collie and the Infinite Radness.” Then there is the fall tour that brings the band — Dave Monks, Josh Hooks, Graham Wright and Greg Alsop — to Southern California for four intimate shows (see below).

The quartet, whose members now reside in far-flung locales, spent substantial time in L.A. last winter recording with producer Rob Schnapf (who worked their 2010 album “Champ”).  Says singer-bassist Monks: “It was exciting to hear ourselves in such a big space like that, the drums ring out, the guitars blend and swirl. I think it really affected the arrangements and songwriting. We started to favor simple rhythms, slower tempos (relatively speaking) and energy over details. It was really liberating. I think ‘New Blues’ really shows how we thrived doing that.”
