Skin Town

Dark R&B duo Skin Town have an album titled “Country” coming out November 16 via Time No Place Records, their first new music since 2013’s “The Room.” Written and recorded over the course of three years, the album took longer to complete as singer Grace Hall suffered through some mysterious life-threatening immune system ailments. A lot of that pain went into the songs, which also touch on subjects of depression, loss, poverty, hedonism, rebellion, sex work, empowerment and love. “Mute” is the second single they’ve shared, following “Down.” Creepy and seductive, Hall’s vocals slide smoothly around Nick Turco’s eerie production. Unhurried yet confrontational in its mellow attack, there are even aspects of the song that feel almost new age. “It reminds me of an Enya song a little bit,” says Hall. “It was our attempt at an Enya song but I’ll always be more Aaliyah than Enya and there’s nothing I can do about it. It has an old school L.A. feel like KDAY or Bone Thugs but even more bleak because it’s from me.”
