Anybody who has had to segue to the gig economy from “traditional” work knows what a shock to the senses it can be. Maybe your Lyft driver has a story. Maybe you know yourself. Or maybe you’re a musician and you’ve never known anything but a gig economy.

It “Ain’t Like It Used to Be,” says Lili Haydn, who spins change in a positive way in the new song written for the film “DriverX.” The movie, directed by Henry Barrial and starring Patrick Fabian, follows the exploits of a fiftysomething man who once owned a record store and took a job at a ridesharing company to help support his wife and two daughters. Based on Barrial’s real-life experience, “DriverX” finds his fares taking him to unexpected places.

“Ain’t Like It Used to Be” is the frisky, upbeat opener for both the movie and the soundtrack album, both of which are out on Friday. It’s one of four songs (plus instrumental interludes pieces) that singer-violinist Haydn wrote for the film; Marvin Etzioni (of Lone Justice) penned the other six.

In the video for the song, Haydn is one of Fabian’s fares, bedecked in a string of lights and on her way to a show. The driver at first appears none too happy to have an impromptu concert going on in his backseat … but as often happens when Haydn is singing and/or playing violin, the mood changes. Smiles happen.
