Ever feel like, in today’s oppressively digital age, you’re just shadow-boxing with your own paranoia? That’s what’s conveyed in “Revolutionary Interface,” the buzzing first single from fledgling Los Angeles quintet New Technology (who, perhaps in a statement about new technology, have no website or Facebook page). The band is the brainchild of Miles Marsico, bassist for local post-punkers TÜLIPS, who tackles themes of “urban and digital alienation, with a sideways sense of humor.” And with a wicked darkwave streak as well. The single is from the quintet’s debut EP “Drone Academy,” which comes out next week via New Professor Music, which included the single on its free sampler released in January. For some reason we are reminded of Q Lazzarus’ “Goodbye Horses” here, which is not a bad thing.
