Mirror Talk’s steeped-in-sentimentality synth-pop comes star-dated from some time in the mid-1980s, although the Los Angeles quartet’s sophomore EP is titled “1997.” It’s true that the the band — singer Court Alexander along with synth-wielding multi-instrumentalists Steven Lopez, Sean Krell and Dave Lewis — are in many ways moving forward, refining the next-wave new wave they displayed their 2013 EP “Infatuation.” The new release, out today on L.A.-based Yellow Year Records, provides plenty of fodder the dance floor, with the thrumming “1/M/T” (shorthand for “One More Time”) and the laser-guided soul of the title track. But there’s also a good ol’ soppy power-ballad, “Some Boys,” sleek as a night of clubbing is long. The common denominators are, of course, Alexander’s big voice and those hooks that, like a lot of new wave music, simply won’t go away.
