Stream: SPELLES, ‘Wild Heart’

Los Angeles singer/songwriter Kathryn Baar, working under the fitting moniker SPELLES since 2009, has released another of her signature eerie and beautifully ominous tracks. “Wild Heart,” which will be featured on her upcoming self-titled EP, out Oct. 30 and produced by Bill Lefler, begins heavily and builds very slowly under Baar’s mesmerizing vocals. The opening lyrics “In my dreams I am weightless” are a good indicator of the song to come — spooky piano and a vulnerable melody that can carry even the heaviest of emotions through the air like feathers. While Baar is reminiscent of other weighty artists such as Florence + the Machine, she has a voice of her own with such delicate power along with the propensity to spit some serious venom. “Wild Heart” bewitches with repetition and simple rhythm perfect for the dark and dreamy cinematic soundscape.
