In single after single after single after single (six in all, so far), L.A. duo Street Joy have propelled garage-rock beyond its fossilized limitations, crafting scratchy, guitar-driven nuggets that are alternately heartsick and trippy, wry and bellicose. Fans will be able to collect the whole set on Friday when singer-guitarist-bassist Jason DeMayo and drummer-singer Scott Zimmerman release the Michael Coleman-produced “Street Joy” EP. Eight songs in all, it has the sonic ambitions of a full-length with the infectious immediacy of a singles collection — these are house party jams for somebody with a really interesting house (and vinyl collection). The new song “Long Time Ago” doesn’t quite drip with the nostalgia its title suggests, but it comes with a bass line right out of the mop-topped ’60s, shifts adroitly through some jammy territory and, even at 4 1/2 minutes, is over far too soon.
