Back in late 2013, singer Rachel Fannan described her new music — being made under the name Only You — as “some dirty Dusty Springfield-sounding sh*t.” It’s taken a while for that music to emerge, but her new single “The Pressure” is indeed dirty and dusty, its ragged guitar and Fannan’s howling vocals evoking vast, windblown desert landscapes. That song’s companion piece is “Let Me Burn,” a torchy ballad more in line with the retro stylings of Only You’s earlier singles “Love Is Making Me Tired” and “Applying Myself.” The songs, available from Hit City U.S.A., each bring a different kind of heat and presage more Only You music in the works for later this year. We’ll adjust our suddenly tight collars accordingly.
