Ryan Lawhon debuted his post-Pacific Air project Mating Ritual late last year with a handful of sugar-coated but brooding synth-pop songs that exhibited his deft touch for melody and production. The new song “Hum Hum” is more beefcake than cheesecake, though; it’s a good ol’ new wave rocker, stardate 1986 or so. You wanna get somebody’s attention? Pound some drums and shout “Hey!” Lizzy Land lends some backing vocals here, and if you can’t imagine a few thousand fresh-faced fans bouncing up and down during the last minute of this one, you living in a “mad, mad, mad, mad dream.”
