A DJ and rabid supporter of local bands, Hershfield, a graduate student in psychology, became known for his engaging interviews with acts he endorsed. “I’m not sure why I was doing it before,” he says, “but over time I realized I was sitting on something great.” IsGood, developed with partner Surjayan Mitra, will feature what he calls an “inner circle” of some 200 bands he has covered, but will also be open to any group.
The website will carry on Hershfield’s efforts in Internet radio as well. He’s already begun webcasting at IsGoodRadio.com, now one of the thousands of stations in the Live365 network, and plans to continue mounting local shows to promote his effort. The kickoff show will be Friday at Mr. T’s Bowl in Highland Park, featuring Seasons, the Transmissions, Vaudeville, Death to Anders and Shiloe. Joe Fielder of Radio Free Silver Lake will share DJ duties with the the host, and the $5 donation goes to pay IsGood’s first month of royalties.
*yawn* isgood is pretty weak and it functions like a site from the 90’s.
nobody cares about indie people/bands unless there is some form of entertainment wrapped around it.
