Fun, fun Friday:
‣ Hey, Cold War Kids, it’s been a while. Last spotted turning in a brilliant sunset set at FYF Fest, the L.A. quartet plays a hometown date at the Troubadour behind their release from earlier this year, “Mine Is Yours.” Electric Flower, the new duo pairing Imaad Wasif and Secret Machines drummer Josh Garza, opens.
‣ Blood Orange, the latest project from Lightspeed Champion’s Dev Hynes, plays Skybar at the Mondrian as part of IAMSOUND’s Mondrian Sessions. That’s Blood Orange’s video for “Forget It,” above, a track from the album “Coastal Grooves,” made in L.A. with producer Ariel Rechtshaid. UPDATE at 3 p.m.: This show has been postponed until Monday night.
‣ Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds are back for a second night at UCLA’s Royce Hall.
‣ Kimya Dawson visits the Echo for an early show (6:30 p.m.) behind her new album “Thunder Thighs.”
‣ After their great show Thursday night at the Echoplex, Future Islands heads south for a date at Alex’s Bar in Long Beach.
‣ And Texas veterans Centro-matic headline the Satellite behind their latest “Candidate Waltz.” If you’re new to Centro-matic, by the way, Will Johnson and company are giving away a free 24-song sampler from their estimable catalog via their website.
