Shy Girls isn’t a group of demure damsels; it’s the moniker under which Portland producer and vocalist Dan Vidmar records his smooth yet crisp R&B jams. He’s been doing it for a while, and so far, color critics impressed. The emergency room-worker-by-day but suave songwriter-by-night released the underrated “Sex In the City” EP in 2011, which spawned New Jack Swing-infused acid-jazz tunes such as “Hallelujah” and “Gonna Get My Name Back.” Now, Vidmar gets ready to release his new EP, “Timeshare,” which features sincere yet seductive tunes such as new single “Second Heartbeat” and ballad “Still Not Falling.” Although Shy Girls is still climbing during the rise of R&B artists such as The Weeknd, How to Dress Well and Rhye, the production in Shy Girls material is refreshingly clean with minimal beats and crooning that isn’t over-the-top but just spot-on for all the lovers out there. “Timeshare” is slated for an Oct. 29 via Hit City U.S.A.
