Coachella 2014: Pet Shop Boys, pioneer daze

Who: Pet Shop Boys in the Mojave Tent
In 3 or Fewer Words: Not boys, men
Memorable Because: It’s about 100 yards between the Mojave and Sahara tents, and on Saturday night a few decades as well. Electro pioneers Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe played the hits to a sizable cross-generational crowd, and it was refreshing beyond its nostalgia bath, especially if you’ve never seen a fortysomething mom wielding dual glowsticks. Whether the youngsters were there because they were bucket-listing their EDM legends or because they couldn’t get into Skrillex in the Sahara Tent, the crowd was completely engaged by Pet Shop Boys’ stage show that included visuals, costume changes and dancers. It too was a spectacle, only in miniature. Wouldn’t this have been a perfect “opportunity” for a cross-generational collaboration as well? Sing along: “I’ve got the brains / you’ve got the looks / Let’s make lots of money.”
What I’d Tell My Friend Who Was At Muse: One oh six point seven.
