Shamir 3

Twenty-year-old Las Vegas phenom Shamir commanded the Echo on Wednesday night with his shape-shifting mix of disco-punk and R&B, backing up the buzz he garnered with his shows at SXSW and his puppet-filled “Call It Off” video. Born Shamir Bailey, he performed falsetto-drenched songs from his forthcoming album “Rachet,” produced by the Godmode label’s Nick Sylvester and due May 17 on XL Recordings, as well as from last year’s “Northtown” EP and the single “On the Regular.” He closed out the set with “Call It Off” and “Head in the Clouds.” L.A.’s Dirty Dishes opened the night.
