The assembly line turning out new pop goddesses is working overtime, and the latest luxury model is 20-year-old Londoner Dua Lipa, who sounds like everyone and no one, has worked with everybody and nobody and makes songs about everything and nothing. Right down to the press raves from her native U.K., it’s all so pop-perfect, the exacting production whooshes and thumps, the by-the-diagram vocal nuances, the eyebrows. Is it a bad reflection on us that we like her “Thinking ’Bout You” demo or her Alessia Cara cover more than the four singles that have racked up a bazillion plays online? Probably. So fire us. The press release says that the U.K.-born Kosovan has a full-length album coming this fall. And that “Hotter Than Hell” was a collaboration with the band Ritual and produced by Stephen “Koz” Kozmeniuk (Kendrick Lamar, Chris Brown, Nicki Minaj). And that “Last Dance” was written with Talay Riley (Jess Glynne, Chris Brown) and also produced by Koz. And that “Be the One” was produced by London-based Digital Farm Animals. And that “New Love” was produced by Emile Haynie (Kayne West, Lana Del Rey, Eminem) and Andrew Wyatt (Miike Snow). Of course, all that becomes fine print when she makes her L.A. debut tonight.
