And this was only Day 1. The energy certainly red-lined on the first night of the In the Red Records 25th Anniversary festival at the Echo and Echoplex. Ty Segall and Mikal Cronin (who teamed up for a 2009 album on the label) had perhaps the most buzz coming into the night (they did not disappoint), but a huge crowd stayed to rally around Detroit veterans the Gories. The rest of the eight-band lineup — Kid Congo & the Pink Monkey Birds, Cheater Slicks, Zig Zags, CFM, Wounded Lion and 100 Flowers (fka the Urinals) — made for an exhilarating night. And two more days to go.
