2016 was a [fill in the blank] year.

Our increasingly harried attempts to keep track of the music that came out of Los Angeles this year, though, bore great fruit. To create the annual Buzz Bands LA 101 — the countdown of our favorite tunes of the year — I started by sifting through an iTunes folder of more than 400 songs. Here’s the finished product, in reverse order, starting at No. 101 and finishing with my song of the year.

Note: This is the Spotify version of the playlist, which differs slightly from the radio version, the final segment of which was broadcast today on The Independent FM, which you can stream here. Four songs in that playlist — by Cate Le Bon, Maria Taylor, Daisy House and Lone Kodiak — are not available on Spotify, and I’ve replaced them with songs by PAPA, Zipper Club, Laura Jean Anderson and Letters to Cleo.

Thanks for following along.
