With no small amount of sentimentality and charisma, Rex Orange County wrapped up his two-night stand at the Shrine Auditorium with a set of swooning pop songs, earnest banter and, from his legion of young fans, squeals of delight.

The 21-year-old Englishman, touring in support of his new album “Pony” (released in October), took the stage at 8:45 to a sea of screams. The singer-songwriter, born Alexander O’Connor, told the crowd after two songs: “This is going to be a very good show, I can already tell. Welcome to the ‘Pony’ tour.”

His prediction turned out to be true. Besides the songs — which included “Pony” in its entirety and some from 2017’s “Apricot Princess” — he took time out to lead a “happy birthday” cheer for one fan who was celebrating. In the middle of the set, the curtain came down and he did five songs without his five-piece backing band. The solo set included a cover of “Hopelessly Devoted to You.”

After the one-song encore of “Always,” it was clear his fans couldn’t get enough. “I’ll see you at Coachella” (where he is playing on Friday), several screamed.

Set List: 10/10, Laser Lights, Face to Face, Never Enough, Television/ So Far So Good, Stressed Out, Pluto Projector, Every Way (solo), Untitled (solo), Hopelessly Devoted To You (cover, solo), Corduroy Dreams (solo), Happiness (solo), Never Had the Balls, 4 Seasons, It Gets Better, Sunflower, Best Friend, Loving Is Easy, Its Not the Same Anymore. Encore: Always
