If isolating in quarantine is giving you cabin fever, Eric Cannata (Young the Giant, Travelers) offers a shot of wistful reflection to settle you down in “Another Song,” his latest single, out today.

The song begins with a foggy glimmer soon layered over with warm acoustic guitar. Levitating higher in mood than Major Tom calling to ground control, Cannata transitions in with a melody stirring a touch of the blues with a good splash of the Beatles. The lyrics tie one back to Earth as Cannata sings, “I only wanted one thing / for us to be free / Now that I’m alone / you won’t pick up the phone… what’s the point of it/ Livin’ in the past.”

The chorus then opens up to full John Lennon ’70 sunlight with full band (Levi Matulis on drums, Jeremy Long on piano and pedal steel and Dave Pelusi on bass, with Cannata on additional keys and percussion in addition to vocals) backing a beautifully layered chorus, “No one wants to be another song / No one wants to hear / about another broken heart / like an abandoned shopping cart.” Cannata’s ending lilt is the icing on the cake.

The entire upcoming EP, “Lonely Beast,” was recorded in two days with the singer-songwriter’s longtime friend Jon O’Brien at Music Box Studios in Fullerton. “Jon put together a band of three awesome musicians, all whom I had never met before the day we recorded the songs… Instrumentally, we did the 5 songs live together the first day, and the second day I added vocals, some keys and percussion,” shares Cannata. “I didn’t want to give myself time to overthink, or over bake these recordings.” If “Another Song” and his earlier single, the title track “Lonely Beast,” is any indication, it’s baked to just golden with all flavors layered in perfect harmony.

Cannata’s debut solo EP, “Lonely Beast,” releases on April 20.
