Here’s the second in our interview/artist playlist series QUARANTUNES, featuring a conversation (from a safe distance) with an L.A. musician and an artist-curated playlist. As Spoon would say, it’s “the way we get by.”

THE LATEST FROM FREEDOM FRY

We documented the amazingly prolific 2019 enjoyed by husband/wife duo Freedom Fry — Bruce Driscoll and Marie Seyrat released a three-song EP every month. They are not slowing down. The duo plan to release a full-length later this year, and they’ve released two singles with YouTube videos documenting the making-of, “West Coast” and “Catalina,” so far in 2020. Another single, “Tell Me It’ll Be Alright” comes out on Friday, so stay tuned. In addition, they will be live-streaming from their studio (they’re calling it “Homechella”) at 8:30 p.m. Friday, April 10, via Instagram.

HOW ARE YOU HOLDING UP AND WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO MANAGE THE ‘STAY AT HOME’ EDICT?

Freedom Fry: To be honest, we’re going a little stir-crazy. Thank heavens for music! We tend to record and write and release a lot. It’s somewhat of an addiction — this “stay at home” lifestyle has only deepened our habit since we record from home. Expect lots more Freedom Fry music in 2020 and 2021. In-between that we’ve been hanging with our 1-year-old, River, and watching what feels like every single movie and TV show that’s ever been released. I also re-stringed all our guitars, which ate up a good day.

WHAT ARE YOU MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO WHEN THIS IS OVER?

Freedom Fry: Buffets. Touching things again. Using toilet paper without rationing. Talking to people without being six feet away. Playing shows. Seeing our friends. Going to the movies. Also, I have some concert tickets to see The House of Love, who have been one of my favorite bands for years. I’m hoping this is done and that show happens by then. That will be a huge celebratory moment if it happens.

ANYTHING WE SHOULD KNOW ABOUT THIS PLAYLIST?

Freedom Fry: This began as a playlist we made to listen to in our home during this lockdown and we’re so happy we get to share it with the world. It has a little bit of an orchestral-pop, slightly psychedelic feel. It’s mostly older stuff we’ve been loving lately, but also some more semi-recent songs that we thought felt cohesive. So enjoy and relax!
