With uncertainty being the only certain thing in the next months, Amoeba Music’s Hollywood store is putting a fork in operations at its current location on Sunset and shifting its focus solely on moving and preparing the new space at 6200 Hollywood Blvd. for when all stores can safely open again.

“We are devastated for our run at this beautiful destination to end like this, but we simply have no choice,” said Jim Henderson, co-owner of Amoeba Music, in an announcement distributed today. “We had planned a massive summer-long celebration of the many memorable events and amazing years as we transition into our new home just up the street, but….With the health, safety and welfare of customers and employees of paramount concern to both health officials and Amoeba’s owners, reopening this summer while COVID-19 is still an issue is simply not possible. The only way forward is to wait this terrible situation out, and focus on the rebuild…. We have the best customers in the world, people that truly appreciate and identify with not only the unrivaled selection and depth of stock, but more with what Amoeba means as a tangible experience in today’s digitized society. It’s tragic that we won’t get one last party in this space, but we live another day and get to look forward to all tomorrow’s festivities at our new location…. We want to thank all of our amazing customers for their loyalty and support all these years.  We look forward to the day we can all be back together.”

More information and updates (including updated FAQs) have been added to their page dedicated to the move.

Music-lovers can support Amoeba staff and the store’s move with donations to their GoFundMe, online sales via their website (with free shipping within the U.S.) and staying in touch by signing up for their newsletter via their homepage.
