Quarantunes: A playlist by Blushh

Blushh

In times that test one’s ability to self-motivate, Blushh’s debut album “R.I.P. Apathy” offers the right tonic. In today’s QUARANTUNES, Blussh mastermind Shab Ferdowsi talks about riding her own creativity wave and missing the community of which she’s been a big part. We’ll order iced black coffee and her playlist, please.

THE LATEST FROM BLUSHH

There are few people in L.A. more uniquely qualified to release an album titled “R.I.P. Apathy” than Shab Ferdowsi, who has left her mark on the scene as an event curator, writer and photographer. She started writing songs for what would become Blushh in 2015 because … why not? And along with pals Skyler Garn, Kenzo Cardenas and Arturs Reirs, she found a sweet spot making crunchy, fuzzy power-pop that’s like finding an energy drink in a cooler of flat soda. “R.I.P. Apathy is a reminder to myself to remember what happens when I get out of my head, how awesome it feels to listen to my gut and to follow that feeling relentlessly,” Ferdowsi says. “[It’s] is a call to action to give a shit: about ourselves, our art, our communities and this planet.” And never get “Too Dark.”

HOW ARE YOU HOLDING UP AND WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO MANAGE THE ‘STAY AT HOME’ EDICT?

I’ve been riding my own creativity wave. I’ve been learning how to make demos of my music with Logic, learning new ways to edit photos, giving myself all kinds of graphic design as well as food projects. Really just trying to stay stimulated! In my downtime, I’ll listen to podcasts or cook or drink a cup of coffee on my porch, maybe scroll through Pinterest to get new project ideas.

WHAT ARE YOU MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO WHEN THIS IS OVER?

Live shows. Tour. Friends. Community. Connection beyond a screen. All of those are so important to me, and this is only proving how much live music and the community in L.A. and across the world is a part of my life.
