More — stylized as more — is the duo of Kane Ritchotte and Malcolm McRae, L.A.-based singer-songwriters and multi-instrumentalists with one foot in the music of ’70s mavericks such as Harry Nilsson and ELO and the other in modern psych-pop.

They debuted today with a pair of singles, “God’s in the Details” and “Settled In,” two of a handful of songs the pair made with veteran producer Tony Berg.

Both songs are lush, evocative beasts, not only rich in melody but in lyrical detail. The former references Leonard Cohen, John Lennon and God, not necessarily in that order — a tune that while promising to “keep it light” might actually be an extension of Lennon’s thesis that “God is a concept by which we measure our pain.” The latter offers a tender narration of the swirl of emotions that come with meeting an ex’s new beau.

McRae, an architecture school dropout newly arrived in L.A. from Birmingham, Ala., and Ritchotte, a session drummer who has played with Portugal. The Man and Grouplove, are newly signed to Warner Records. Their five-song EP will be out June 26.

Justin Hopkins directs the videos for the duo’s maiden songs.
