Jasper Bones

Jasper Bones has been working on his new project and taking long, head-clearing “drives to nowhere” during the COVID-19 lockdown. In today’s QUARANTUNES, he shares a playlist for those drives, as well as an appreciation for “when the sun sets, the moon comes out and quiet is in session.”

THE LATEST FROM JASPER BONES

After the release of his “Cruise Control” EP in 2018 and two more forays into his warm psychedelic soul last year, Jasper Bones (see our Artists to Watch 2020) has been soldiering through the ups and downs of the COVID-19 lockdown while working on new music, which could possibly arrive this fall. To tide fans over, he recently unveiled a cover of Frank Ocean’s single “Cayendo.”

HOW ARE YOU HOLDING UP AND WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO MANAGE THE ‘STAY AT HOME’ EDICT?

I’m hanging in there. I think we’ve all seen better days but we’re pushing through everything and I believe that’s what’s vital during this chaotic year. Fortunately, I have a great deal of time on my hands to finish this next project. As much as I love creating I’ve realized it’s equally important to pause and catch a breath of fresh air every now and then. Nowadays, I hop in my car and drive with no plan whatsoever. I utilize this time to explore hidden gems in nature and regroup mentally, physically and emotionally. Currently, I’ve even deleted all social media apps to help myself live in the moment as I experience life around me firsthand. I then take this refreshed state of being into the studio and have noticed it has helped me write some of my most authentically raw songs. I remain hopeful that everything will work itself out how it’s meant to be, for the better, and that we’ll come out of this with a greater appreciation for one another.

WHAT ARE YOU MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO WHEN THIS IS OVER?

I’m filled with nervousness and excitement for this next chapter of life. From a musical perspective, I’m looking forward to continued growth and evolution as I become a better vocalist and instrumentalist little by little. I’m also looking forward to getting more involved in film and creating shorts as I familiarize myself with a new creative outlet. Most importantly, though, I look forward to the day we can be a community live and in person again. I miss shows a ton. Not only playing them for myself, but going to them and supporting my friends as well. I really miss my friends. The friends I’ve made who I love. The friends waiting to be made and loved. I’m looking forward to being able to tour again and meeting everyone that’s ever supported me. I’m looking forward to becoming a better version of myself. One that remains driven and confident so that I can continue sharing my experiences with the world in whatever form that may be. For now, though, I look forward to when the sun sets, the moon comes out and quiet is in session.

ANYTHING WE SHOULD KNOW ABOUT THIS PLAYLIST?

Nothing other than that it’s a collection of songs I’ve been enjoying on my drives to nowhere lately. I’d say it’s a nighttime listen for sure.
