L.A. indie-rock warriors Cold War Kids have announced that “New Age Norms 3,” the final in an album trilogy they began in 2019, will be out on Sept. 24, just a couple weeks shy of the 15th anniversary of the release of their debut album.

The band — original members Nathan Willett and Matt Maust, along with David Quon, Matthew Schwartz and Joe Plummer — marked the occasion Friday by releasing the dancey new single “What You Say.”

“I think all of us want to reveal ‘our full selves’ to someone who truly understands,” Willett says of the new single. “But when we do we expose ourselves to judgment, to criticism. so we don’t wanna give ourselves away too easily. That’s why poetry is awesome, it’s not politicizing, it speaks to our deeper, universal stuff. What you say is a big deal, your words have power.”

The band is making available boxed sets of “New Age Norms 1 and 2” today, as part of Record Store Day. “New Age Norms 3” is the band’s ninth full-length.
