“Young, Black and Beautiful” is an anthem of self-affirmation that appears on Chris Pierce’s latest album, “American Silence,” released in February.

The album is a plainspoken and extraordinarily moving dissection of racial injustice, and this closing track “is about black self love,” he says. “It’s the song that I would have benefited hearing as a child. My hope is that this song reaches the hearts of black children and parents alike and extends to the hearts of all. Black is beautiful and blackness should be celebrated, not feared.”

For the video, which Pierce wanted to release for Juneteenth, the singer-songwriter collaborated with photographer Mathieu Bitton and film editor Charles Little II.

They team up to create a remarkable musical slideshow, fitting for the country’s newest national holiday.
