Jesse Jo Stark makes the femme fatale thing sound pretty, er, killer on her debut album, “Doomed,” out today. But that’s not the only persona she inhabits on the album, which skitters between blues, punk, psychobilly, country and even alt-pop faster than you can say “costume change.”

It’s held together by the force of her personality, not to mention the faint mystery of whether, from song to song, she will be the heartbreaker or the heartbroken.

Producer-songwriter Jesse Rutherford (of the Neighbourhood), Michael Harris (whose studio credits include Haim, Lo Moon, Lana Del Rey, LP and Vampire Weekend, among many others) and songwriter Thomas Hunter were Stark’s principal collaborators on “Doomed.” They had collaborated on the 2021 EP, “A Pretty Place to Fall Apart” — music from the TV drama “Fracture,” in which Stark starred.

Director Bethany Vargas’ video for “Lipstick” ushered in the release of the album. “Your lipstick tastes like cocaine,” Stark sings, and we’d buy a ticket to that movie.
