Kenan Bell is a schoolteacher by day, an MC by night and a man who sees the world in verse, writing material that he constantly commits to his Sidekick and e-mails to himself for use in his music. The debut album of his indie-rock-oriented hip-hop won’t be out until later this year, but the pride of La Crescenta has already started the tease.
Bell recently released his first single, “Fruits and Vegetables,” and now he has made “Good News the Mixtape,” on which he raps over the likes of Pink Floyd, Jose Gonzalez, Peter Bjorn & John, Lily Allen and Neil Diamond, among others. He’s releasing the mixtape one song at a time via various blogs nationally, including this one.
