Videos: His Orchestra, Metric

More on the album when it lands in my mailbox, but for now here is the music video for His Orchestra’s “Black Coffin.” It’s directed by Leah McKissock, with cinematography by Aaron Lavinsky and choreography by Kristin Rapinchuk. The six-piece band, fronted by Douglas Smith (Ben Henrickson on “Big Love”), recently released its debut, “Field Guide to the Wilds.” This taste should whet your appetite for more. (Back in November, during the band’s great residency at the Silverlake Lounge, I posted this song for download.

Not to seem like too much of a … ahem … fan, but here’s the second video this month from the new Metric album, “Fantasies.” It’s a short film set to the great track “Help I’m Alive,” and it’s the work of Deco Dawson, a collaborator of filmmaker Guy Maddin and the producer of Metric’s live concert DVD. On his own, Dawson took some concert footage and “turned it into something that looks like Yo Gabba Gabba on acid,” the band says. Metric plays the Wiltern on June 8. A bonus: Here’s the Twelves’ remix of “Help I’m Alive.”
