[Any corporate sponsors out there interested in underwriting a blog? I mean, I don’t write songs, but I write about them. Just sayin’ …]
Ryan Bingham has a new, T Bone Burnett-assisted album coming out on Aug. 31 that figures to certify him as a roots-rock star – as if his Grammy win for “The Weary Kind (Theme From Crazy Heart)” didn’t. While you wait for that (and his show Wednesday at the Bootleg Theater), there’s a free download of his take on “That’s How Strong My Love Is,” the ballad made famous by Otis Redding. It comes courtesy of the “Revival Recordings” series in the Levi’s Pioneer Sessions, for which some of today’s top artists record songs near and dear to their hearts. Besides Bingham’s, I can highly recommend the downloads from the Kills, Rafael Saddiq, the Shins and the Swell Season. It won’t cost you your shirt (or pants), either – just your name, e-mail and ZIP code.
