New Jersey native Anthony Polcino kept his own music in the background while he played guitar in the Los Angeles’ Low Vs Diamond, but when that quintet “slowed down, or fizzled out” after touring behind its 2008 album, Polcino says, he got to work in his West Hollywood apartment.

His debut album as Soft Pipes, “When You’re Done Here You Get to Go Home,” recently self-released, shimmers with melody and atmospherics, speaking to Polcino’s “love of reverb, washed-out tones and other sounds that create their own ethereal universe.” Not bad for recordings that made extensive use of a closet. In fact, it’s a lovely dream-pop excursion in general.
“My motivation was just the will to do it,” says Polcino, who’s not yet assembled a live band to play Soft Pipes music. “Sometimes things kind of diffuse at the hands of other people, so there was some satisfaction in doing this myself.”

Love the album! I’ve been waiting for its release and now that it’s finally here it sounds amazing. Golden Grace is an instant classic – along with Glass Heart and Talksick Blues. I really liked LVD, but Soft Pipes is so real and different.
