Premiere: Lonely Trees, ‘No Man’s Love’

During Lonely Trees’ recent show at the Bootleg Theater, I wisecracked that the new L.A. quintet reminded me of “mid-period Autolux.” It’s true that the band – co-fronted Christian Stone (ex-Campfire Girls) and Annalee Fery (ex-Monsters Are Waiting) – ventures into the same kind of alluringly dissonant territory, owing mainly to the rhythm section of bassist Max Braverman and drummer Amy Wood and some off-kilter keyboards from Gueorgui Linev. But mainly Lonely Trees’ atmospheric rock, at times reminiscent of Blonde Redhead, School of Seven Bells and Ivy, keeps the melodies (and the plaintive boy/girl vocals of Stone and Fery) in plain view, occasionally floating above dance beats. The fivesome has only played three shows, and only recently completed recording a full-length album. But as first impressions go, this was strong.

This is good stuff..inspiring to hear some fresh new stuff from LA. Thanks for sharing.
Diggin the “No Man’s Love” track. I’ll keep an eye on this band
These guys are great, I remember seeing them about 2 months ago in LA and it was one of the best shows I have been to in a long time. I really dig their sound.
best new music ive heard in a while. very uplifting yet, melloncollie. would love to check it out live!!
I can’t wait to buy the album!
I was at the bootleg show..that was their 3rd one ever? Impressive…i really like this song.. been on repeat all day today. New fav band.
I can’t wait for the album to drop; these guys have a sound that is entirely their own yet their songs could easy fit into any music library. If there is one band to keep an eye on right now, it’s them.
This is really good stuff. I’ve been so pessimistic and tired of local bands in the past year or so, but these guys are refreshing.
