Ears Wide Open: HoneyChild

0

What HoneyChild’s debut album “Nearer the Earth” lacks in bulk – at eight songs over 26 minutes, it’s a value-added EP more than anything – it makes up for in heart. The L.A. six-piece [we suspect the mud and debris are hiding half the band in the photo above] are cultivating a buoyant, earnest take on folk-pop, just twangy and jangly enough to share bloodlines with their California pop brethren. The band’s roster includes Tobias Jesso (guitar/vocals), Noah Gersh (guitar/banjo/mandolin/vocals), Eric Donley (guitar/vocals), Jamie Schefman (bass/vocals), Lance Piebenga (keyboard) and Rheese Detrow (drums). Whatever these guys come up with next, it’ll probably be good for a sing-along.
