News bits: Mississippi Man, Grouplove, Cults, Frightened Rabbit, the Naked and Famous, Social D

‣ Orange County-bred folk-rock quintet Mississippi Man [pictured], who put out their debut album “A-OK” this summer, is calling it quits. The band’s final show will be Sunday at the Bootleg Theater. Said David Knight via e-mail: “We felt like we went as far as we could with MM.”
‣ Grouplove, the indie-pop quintet who went from zero to opening for Florence + the Machine in a matter of a few months, are signed to Atlantic Records partner Canvasback and will release their debut EP on Jan. 25.
‣ Speaking of Atlantic, the label has also inked one of Buzz Bands’ favorites, Frightened Rabbit.
‣ Speaking of across the Atlantic, low-fi pop bandwagoners Cults signed to Columbia U.K.
‣ Staying again of across the Atlantic, somebody at German electronic label Kompakt thought enough of L.A. duo Rainbow Arabia to sign them, the Weekly reported. Tip of the cap to them, but I’ve never been able to make it through a full Rainbow Arabia set yet.
‣ And speaking of U.K. record deals, the Naked and Famous – the New Zealand quintet who just blew through L.A. for a couple shows and wowed a lot of people – signed to Fiction Records (the Cure, Elbow, White Lies, Crystal Castles, Snow Patrol) overseas and inked a U.S. deal with Universal Republic. They’re even moving the London, reports the Herald.
‣ Hard to believe, but when Social Distortion performs Monday night on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” it will be the band’s first national television appearance. Social D has three straight sold-out nights Jan. 27-29 at the Palladium, and also help the House of Blues Anaheim celebrate its 10th birthday with a show there Jan. 12.
