[Today’s batch of downloads is brought to you some of our favorite Britpop legends … doing things other than what made them legendary:]

Freebass, “Bury Me Standing.” Freebass is the three-bass guitar project of Peter Hook (Joy Division, New Order), Mani Mounfield (Stone Roses, Primal Scream) and Andy Rourke (the Smiths). Or was. Their album, “It’s a Beautiful Life,” is just out, but prior to its release the group splintered over comments Mounfield made over Hook’s current project – touring with his band to perform Joy Division’s debut album “Unknown Pleasures.” (That tour visits the Music Box on Saturday.) Here’s your recap of that dust-up.

Discodeine, “Synchronize” (feat. Jarvis Cocker). Discodeine is the project of French producers Pentile and Pilooski, and while they may not be household names outside of Parisian electro scene, they landed Pulp’s Jarvis Cocker to guest on their first single, five versions of which are available on DFA Records.

Richard Ashcroft, “Are You Ready?” (e-mail required). The Verve frontman’s new album “United Nations of Sound” gets its U.S. release on March 8, and this song is the highlight. Frankly, I’m sure there are many more.
