Ears Wide Open: Dante Vs Zombies

Hard to believe that “Yes, I’m Stalking You” – the undeniable single by L.A.’s Dante Vs Zombies – was actually released digitally in 2009. The tune (eventually available as a 7-inch on Albino Crow) staked its claim to song of the summer last year, and it’s still cropping up in playlists in 2011. Owing that song and an exuberant live show, the wacky collective headed by ex-Starlite Desperation frontman Dante Adrian White has gained momentum and followers ever since with what they call their “spaghetti Western jungle pop anthems” – which translates to “exceedingly fun retro-pop.” The next dose is the new single “Oblivion,” just released digitally via Infrasonic Sound with a 7-inch featuring the B-side “Bible Belt” to come. It’ll hit you like smelling salts.

There was a reason, on one of your Buzzsicle Podcasts, last year, I urged these guys, and that tune, be bumped up the playlist. Catchy as shit and as good a creep out as garage gets. I bought the 7″. I said, ‘if only LA music was more like this, I’d really go out more. . .’ and you know, it’s getting there, so I’ll probably have to leave the house at some point now.
