Download: The Ettes, ‘The Pendulum’

Nashville-based trio the Ettes are getting ready to release their fifth studio album, “Wicked Will,” and we’d like to think their fuzzed out old-soul rock swagger had something to do with their origins here in the City of Angels back in 2004. Thanks to impressive sets at Lollapalooza and Austin City Limits (in addition to gaining some exposure when their song “Crown of Age” was hand-selected by Drew Barrymore to appear on her “Whip It” soundtrack), Lindsay Hames, Maria Silver and Jeremy Cohen are finally picking up some steam. Slated for an Aug. 2 release, “Wicked Will”  hasn’t abandoned their primal minimalist approach, but the reverb sounds like it’s been turned up as far as it can go this time around. The band’s bold direction is exemplified in their lead single “The Pendulum,” where the tambourine is loud and up front alongside Hames’ fearless vocals and Cohen’s brazen bass lines for a simple yet seductive garage-rock tune.
