L.A. band One Trick Pony has been making their mark in the local scene with their lush orchestral arrangements since Randolph William III founded the band back in 2003. Eight years down the road, after having a rotation of musicians flesh One Trick Pony’s sound out in a live setting, Williams has finally found a solid lineup that includes Jen Matos, Charlene Huang, Joshua Solberg, Todd McLaughlin, and Nick Ceglio. The band’s cohesion has also influenced the songs on their latest record, the robust “Try Not To Worry Too Much.” The album’s lead single, “Andrew Jackson,” reveals a deft minimalism in the first few measures, with Williams’ tender buttery-smooth vocals over percussion and light string-plucking. Huang’s delicate melodies on the violin continue to add texture to their compositions, but a warm chorus flourishes this time around when the wind-instruments come in to accent the story. As Williams repeatedly sings, “Go give them hell,” the cinematic rush of sounds seems to back him up quite nicely.
