Ears Wide Open: Davis Fetter

As frontman of the cheekily named but underrated O.C. quartet Venus Infers, Davis Fetter was a swaggering mod rocker whose Strokes-meets-Britpop music could have come from Manchester as well as much as Huntington Beach. With his foursome on hiatus, Fetter has done more than just adopt a stellar bouffant. Fetter’s first two singles ooze the romanticism of ’50s and ’60s pop idols while resisting a lot of the currently popular retro production. Fetter’s are just sweet love songs with atmospheric sheen, crooned just so, more suitable to 7-inch slabs of vinyl than digital mixtapes. Although you might want to stash a song or two for next Valentine’s Day.
