Time off from being one-half of the Fiery Furnaces (with the other half being her brother Matthew) has been treating Eleanor Friedberger quite well. She’s on tour with a backing band featuring Matt Asti (MGMT), Ahmed Gallab (Yeasayer, Caribou) and John Eatherly (Be Your Own Pet, Turbo Fruits), and she’ll also personally be joining Carrie Brownstein and Fred Armisen for the next handful of Portlandia Tour dates. (She and the band opened for Wild Flag last year.) Although her debut record “Last Summer” appropriately came out last summer, Friedberger celebrates these upcoming tour dates with a new chuckle-inducing video for “Heaven.” The Scott Jacobson-directed clip dives in to a comic book narrative that chronicles moments from her death on a yacht to her final destination in the afterlife. But after an angel sits her down to view a short film reviewing her time on earth, wrongdoings in the past such as binge drinking, gambling and witchcraft cost Friedberger any chance of staying in the clouds, making the song title a bit ironic.
