Ears Wide Open: The Mowgli’s

Hey, hey, hey, the gang’s all here – doing gang harmonies, we mean, not defying grammatical convention by using an apostrophe to pluralize, as the Mowgli’s do. The Los Angeles seven-piece joins a long line of bands taking the collectivist approach to vocals, their chipper folk-pop-with-a-dusting-of-soul seeking to inspire sunny dispositions and sing-alongs. The new digital single from Michael Vincze, Colin Louis Dieden, Katie Jayne Earl, Matthew Di Panni, Josh Hogan, Dave Appelbaum and Spencer Trent is the Summer of Love-ish tune “San Francisco,” and while there’s little in the Mowgli’s straight-ahead arrangements to think they’ll bump Local Natives, Milo Greene or Grouplove from your playlist, “I’ve been in love / with love” will get stuck in your head, if not a future soft drink commercial.
