Who: Band of Skulls on the main stage
In 3 or Fewer Words: Three’s enough.
Memorable Because: It was all about the music. The black-clad U.K. band’s turn on the main stage showcased both the power and the pratfalls of being a three-piece. Nary a note was out of place, and neck-snapping songs such as “Sweet sour,” “The Devil Takes Care of His Own,” “Hollywood Bowl” and “Death by Diamonds and Pearls” reverberated across the slowly filling festival grounds like calls to action. If you were looking for theatrics, though, best seek out someone “playing” his laptop and dancing. It’s not like Russell Marsden can turn somersaults while playing those timeless riffs, and singer-bassist Emma Richardson doesn’t exactly have time to vamp, either. Tough to carry the main stage with just musical muscle, but Band of Skulls did. Marsden’s guitar sure is pretty too.
What I’d Tell My Friends Who Were at Metronomy: Wish I could have been there as well.
