Coachella 2012: Beirut, and a tale of two worlds

Who: Beirut in the Mojave Tent
In 3 or Fewer Words: Blowing their horn.
Memorable Because: To walk between the Mojave and Sahara tents at 9 p.m. Sunday was to traverse two worlds. Amid the deafening lights (mixed metaphor intended) of the dance tent, Calvin Harris, whom we remember as a gangly lad when the Scotsman first played Coachella in 2008, was busting out his hits – and Rihanna, who joined him for “We Found Love.” Next door, Zachary Condon was finding love in pop arrangements using three horns, an accordion, a ukulele, keys, stand-up bass and drums. I darteed back and forth twice, and Beirut was lovely, even earning the approval of a small cadre of fans who had packed the tent for the previous set – Gotye – and were too tired to leave. Well played, kids.
What I’d Tell My Friends Who Were at Calvin Harris: Find love where you can.
